Research and Development

Bridgestone - Leading Research and Development in Off The Road Tyres Bridgestone has the world's most sophisticated research and development operation, designed to ensure that our tyres deliver the highest levels of productivity, longevity and profitability to our customers.

For many mining and construction sites around the world, we are able to provide tyres that are custom-designed for the application and the conditions applying there.

Our tyre technical experts throughout the globe constantly collect data on tyre use, application, operating conditions and performance, and feed it back to our R&D department at our Tokyo Technical Centre.

Bridgestone - Leading Research and Development in Off The Road Tyres As a result of our expertise, and constant measuring and comparisons of tyre performance, we are experts at modifying such elements as tread rubber, compounds, casings and other elements to provide tyres that best meet the needs of our customers -- wherever they may be.

Bridgestone - Leading Research and Development in Off The Road Tyres Our R&D department uses some of the world's most powerful super computers to simulate all factors that act on a large earthmover tyre in the field, and to develop tyres capable of withstanding the punishing conditions.

Our simulations are checked and compared against actual tyre performance in the field.

In addition, our tyre manufacturing facility at Hofu incorporates Bridgestone's Off the Road Tyre Test Centre (ORTC), which includes the world's largest drum measuring machine.

This machine is able to test tyre characteristics such as heat generation, durability, manoeuvrability, rolling resistance and vibration -- and their effect on tyre performance and life.

Other tests carried out at ORTC include field tests, dynamic drum tests to measure durability and dynamic characteristics, static and creep-mode drum tests to evaluate tyre performance, and dissectional analysis to determine time fatigue in tyre materials.
